2016 Junior Zookeeper and Explorer Programs
Junior Zookeeper Program

This program allows children aged 10 to 17 a wonderful opportunity to learn about a variety of animals at Wildlife Safari, and to share their knowledge with the public. This program will be replacing our past Ambassador Program with the goal of providing more opportunities for children to broaden their experiences, explore what it is like to work in a zoo, and develop an appreciation of our natural world. The Junior Zookeeper program has proven to be a great way for kids to learn responsibility, build leadership skills, and gain self confidence, and get some quality time with animals.

Junior Zookeeper Program Activities:

The activities will vary for each participant depending on their years of experience as a past Ambassador, the amount of time they have spent at the zoo, and their individual abilities. Here are just some of the things a Junior Zookeeper will have the opportunity to be involved in:

Responsibility for the Petting Zoo

This includes assuring the public has an enjoyable experience in the contact area, and that the animal interaction is comfortable and fun for the animals too. Juniors assist the Zookeepers in keeping the area clean for the animals and the public, grooming the animals and monitoring the animals well being.

Animal Husbandry

This includes learning how to care for, clean and prepare diets for our education animals.

Summer Camps

Helping with our variety of summer camps, playing games, leading activities and creating crafts for our campers.

Village Booths and Animal Presentations

Juniors will be trained to assist in sharing animal facts and live animals with the public.

Special Events

Helping with the variety of special events we have going on during the summer.
