Conservation of Rare and Endangered Species (C.O.R.E.S.)
C.O.R.E.S. mission is to preserve and enhance rare and endangered species. C.O.R.E.S. supports Wildlife Safari’s conservation projects and conservation research that focus on rare and endangered species. C.O.R.E.S. involves partnerships between the zoology department at Wildlife Safari and researchers across the globe. The C.O.R.E.S. program was developed in January 2005, but includes programs that have been ongoing since the park opened in 1973.
As part of C.O.R.E.S. the Wildlife Safari participates with the Association of Zoo and Aquarium’s (AZA) Species Survival Plans (SSP). The mission of the AZA’s Species Survival Plan Program is to help ensure the survival of selected wildlife species. This is done through scientifically-controlled managed breeding programs, public awareness of wildlife conservation issues, and is some cases reintroduction of wildlife bred in captivity back into secure habitats.
